What is AYA WELL?

AYA WELL is a no-cost research study that provides adolescent and young adult cancer survivors with tools and strategies to manage their weight and improve diet quality and physical fitness.

This program was created especially for adolescent and young adult cancer survivors ages 18-39 by researchers at University of North Carolina Chapel Hill and Virginia Commonwealth University in partnership with an advisory board of AYA survivors and experts. Read more below to learn about the program and to find out if you may be eligible.

What will I do in the program?

If you are eligible and want to participate, you will be asked to:

  • Participate in a comprehensive, virtual weight loss program
  • Be willing to be randomly assigned to 1 of 2 groups (you can’t pick your group)

What will I do for data collection?

  • Because this is a research study, to get a true picture of the answer to our research questions, you will be asked to complete data collection visits 4 times throughout the study.
    • Before you start the program (time 1)
    • 3 months later (time 2)
    • 6 months later (time 3)
    • 12 months later (time 4)
  • You will complete surveys and we will measure things like your weight, physical activity, and diet
  • All measures can be complete virtually / remotely so you don’t have to live in the area or come in to our research center

Interested in Participating?

We will be opening recruitment for AYA WELL in Summer 2025. If you would like to be contacted when we start recruiting, please send us an email at AYAWELLstudy@vcu.edu.
